Its origin came from something out of a marine supply catelog that was subseqently adopted by an aircraft shop. FAA considers it a minor alteration and therefore no great mound of paperwork is required. (The aircraft shop supplies a letter from FAA stating this). It works by having an extension spring (like a screen door spring) that is attached with a fitting at each end. One end is attached to the door the other to a point near the door. When the door is open the spring is straight and supports the door nicely yet the spring also acts to prevent the door from opening too far if the wind catches it. To close the door you just bend the spring with your finger and close the door. A picture's worth a thousand words ..... maybe I'll send one to Marv for inclusion in the next paper issue of LML.
