Phil, regarding the stormscope noise from the hydraulic pump, I had the same
thing although it's a Strikefinder in my case.  After discussion with my
avionics guru, I elected to simply hit the clear button after takeoff to
clear the noise.  Maybe one day I'll go after it properly, but right now
it's a very minor inconvenience that does not affect me on 90% of my flights
anyway.
