Dear Listers,
Well here we go again. So after not having any luck with the wing tip
(not winglet) VOR antenna, my tech talked me into a rabbit ear diapole
installed in the compartment behind the baggage area with the antenna
facing front i.e. tips forward.
This increased measured reception on the ground by 100%.
However, in the air, I am getting 68 mi reception at 14,000 MSl going
AWAY from a VOR but only 28 miles going TOWARD a VOR.
Obviously the wings etc. are interfering with the signal.
My question is what if any luck has anyone had with external VOR
antenna installations and what type?
Secondly, what results in terms of range are you getting with wing tip
(not winglet) VOR antennas?
Also has anyone mounted rabbit ear VOR antennas in the engine cowling ...
I thought this might induce noise from the engine??
And finally, is there any difference between the different wingtip antennas?
Mine is an old kit (ser #11) so maybe a new and improved antenna is out there?
Any ideas?
