in regards to the nose gear gas struts, I found that the Volvo 700 series
trunks use small 75 lb. units so I used two (the wt of two of these units is
equal to one Lancair unit). the old Lancair units were 75 lbs., now upped to
~100 lb. and the sum of these two make 150 lbs. I cut the tips off and
threaded the shafts (1/4-24)and put rod bearings on the tips of the units.
they look great (very high quality) and the matched set on each side reduces
binding forces. if one fails, the other should still lower the front gear.
the only modification is that you need a longer bolt with bushings (or
washers) for the rod bearings and another bracket for the additional gas
strut. it looks better too. <g>
