Rather this is an expression of regret and sorrow. Tony was one of the Washington State L IV builders/flyers and we’re a tight community so we will feel his loss intensely. This is the third serious L IV accident our group has suffered – the second one involving fatalities. Tony built a terrific airplane, which he owned with a partner, and he was always improving it including adding the Sierra Flight Systems EFIS 2000 last year. He was a great pilot and he really knew the L IV and the Continental engine. I think he had more than 700 hours on his airplane, almost all flown by him personally. I suspect that he was one of the top three or four pilots in terms of L IV hours flown. He was never hesitant to lend a hand or worthy advice to any and all of us when we had a question or needed help closing wings, etc. He was like Paladin of TV fame – his motto could have been “have airplane, will travel”. A few months ago, he became a DAR agent for the FAA to compliment his flight instruction and flight-testing services. I don’t know of anyone in the Pacific Northwest who was more eager to assist in the production and flying of Lancair IV’s. We’ve lost a mentor and friend. We’ll miss you, Tony.
