Your other comments on Garmin's right to sell as they please are right on.
Damn us capitalists! However, you'd have to show me the numbers to prove
that an SFS unit (how much are they again? $20K? $40K?) is cheaper than a
$7800 Garmin 430.
Having said that, Bill Rumburg pointed out to me last year that my proposed
King Silver Crown stack would cost the same or more than the more capable
Garmin 430. (For the disbelieving, as I was, run the numbers yourself. If
you're buying new avionics, Bill's right.)
For you Garmin fans out there, Mike Busch has a good article on AvWeb
describing how the Garmin 530 works on a typical flight from Santa Maria to
LAX. Lots of good screen shots, too.
(And yes, though I'm envious of the Garmin owners out there, I'm REALLY
jealous of you guys with SFS systems....)
