Hi all,
After all the passionate arguments over the way things should be vs the way
they are, I guess bottom line is that any company is free to market and
behave in any fashion it deems appropriate as long as it doesn't break the
law. It then must live with its decisions in the marketplace, at the
financial bottom line, and with the courts if there should be liability
issues. It's too bad for some of us that Garmin chooses to make it more
difficult for those who wish to build our panels with little support
and control but still want to use Garmin's high end products, which it
appears from the discussion, many of us think are "must have" items. Still,
Garmin gets to make their own decisions and they appear to have done so.
The ideal work around IMHO would be for SFS to add a comm, a VOR/LOC
receiver and a GS receiver to the EFIS thereby eliminating the need for a
Garmin X30 GPS unit. This would afford a cleaner panel, fewer wiring
hookups, lower overall cost, AND - we wouldn't have to beg our avionics shop
to cut corners on the Garmin sales policies. Are you listening, Gordon,
Nate and Rick?
Regards,
John Barrett
