The first was caused by a down solenoid not working. I could lift the gear but not lower them with power. At the time, I did not have the experience to know that I could fly the plane as slow as 62 mph. I keep it above 120 mph as I had been taught. At this speed the emergency extension would not lock the nose gear in place. The second was caused by the mechanic, at annual inspection time, not placing the seat bottoms in their forward catches. A slight slipping forward, without me noticing it, caused the stick to not go back all of the way. When I pulled the throttle back on final. I did not have enough up elevator to arrest the decent. This caused the front fork to bend, jammed the gear up on go around and a subsequent nose gear up landing. -- Lorn H.
