I have always wondered how the IRS got such a stranglehold on the American
public over the years--to the point where it governs every aspect of our
lives.

Upon reading the Garmin threads this week, and noting the debate on reams and
reams of arcane rules and regulations, it occured to me that the players in
this debate were participating in the same scenario, and this is a repeat of
the stranglehold, only this time it is the FAA.

In each case, the politicians and bureaucrats have assembled a convoluted and
completely unreadable, massive and complex body of documents designed to
completely rule our lives--and only they--the masters--own the key to the
interpretation of the controlling documents--and they damn well are not going
to give the key to us.

In each case, the slaves to the government--US--has gotten carried away in
trying to be good citizens, and have gotten completely submerged in the
complexity of the paper work, and have lost sight of what our goals are--and
the end result is WE have become slaves to the government to the point where
our lives and the quality of life suffers.

It takes two to dance.

If you don't know what this means, read no further.  You have become so
accustomed to handing over your personal liberties guaranteed by the
Constitution, that you will spend the rest of your lives trying to interpret
the silly and petty paragraphs of every arcane document the government puts
in front of you in order to control your lives.

I consider everyone on this site to be of very high intelligence--you have to
be smart to fly a plane and to build a plane.

It bothers me when I hear smart people talking about hanging out at the FAA
office to get interpretations of their rules and regulations.  These people
are not your poker buddies.  They are not your hangar buddies.  The more you
dance with them, the harder they will hug you.  It takes two to dance.

I have finally figured out how we got in this mess of the government
controlling every aspect of our lives.  It started when the first
bureaucrat--make that lawyer--assembled the first unreadable document to gain
control.

----And it started with the first guy who tried to read the document and got
so engrossed in it that he forgot that it was really a control trick to make
him give up some individual freedom.

What is the idea of building your own plane?  Is it to submerge yourself is
such silly crap,  or is it to FLY YOUR PLANE?

Now, stop the music, stop dancing, and fly your plane.
