Regarding the engine aspect of the lightning strike, it was mentioned to the
plane's owner that the engine might have been damaged, but since it ran
normally from Texas back to San Diego, he thinks it's OK and isn't going to
do anything other than keep an eye on his indicators. He's also not doing
anything to check other components outside the rudder other than repair the
black marks where the lightning hit. I agree that he's lucky on a lot of
counts. One can only hope that he gets his Strikefinder working and gives
storms a wider berth in the future.
