Steve,
Here are some of the things we learned from the Legacy building work shop.
1. It really help to have a competent builder assistant with you. Only the real gem of a wife fits that description. I am a lucky man and my wife does qualify, but she got called back to work after only one day. Ralph Love (Legacy #70) had wanted to observe the builder assist and jumped in. What a life saver!
2. Try and get to the point where you have the fuselage positioned and fitted to the center wing by the end of the week. Then build cap strips and glass brackets so that you can position them back in the exact same position when you get home. Other wise you are going to be building jigs at home to reestablish the alignment. To get this far you will need a capable assistant.
3. We used a Uhaul rather than a Ryder truck to get home. Use the Ryder. We had to do a lot of shimming and padding to protect the fuselage and wings from the wheel wells in the Uhaul. I hit a stretch of rough pavement where the truck seemed to get in resonance with the bouncing of the pavement. I had to slow way down because I knew the wheel well could damage the fuselage. The Ryder also has a wood floor that you can nail tie downs to if needed.
4. Take lots of pictures! We purchased a good digital camera. It was very helpful. You can get too busy and forget to take pictures. We can email pictures to friends or other interested people.
5. Check that there are vent holes drilled in the horizontal tail ribs. I think the holes that forward center section of the horizontal are missing in mine.
6. The Super 8 motel in Redmond, seemed to be a good place to stay.
7. Have a lot of fun!
