I have been offered a position in London. Aside from the numerous personal
and professional issues, I am very interested in what it is like to to fly a
Lancair in Europe including cost, restrictions/headaches, etc. Also, are
large small "N" numbers allowed (I will soon be painting my 360). I have
e-mail several European LMLers, but have not had any luck.
I would greatly appreciate any feedback from anyone who has experience in
both the US & Europe. Please feel free to contact me directly or e-mail a
number to call.
Best Regards,
Clark Baker

BTW- My Lancair is currently at Mattituck Engine services. I bought the
plane with 25hrs since new (and SMOH from a shop in Florida). Now, with 275
hours, I have never been happy with oil consumption (1QT in 4-5hrs, with oil
dripping from the tail). I have one of the ACS oil separators. Channel
chrome cylinders were installed at overhaul, but at 25hrs were not seating
properly. At 125hrs we tried honing and new rings, but little improvement.
Mattituck traced the oil consumption to the chome cylinders (seems no one
uses chome anymore). However, when they opened the oil filter, they found
bearing material. It appears at overhaul, the engine shop used the wrong
rod bearings, which were too wide and rubbing on the crank fillets. So, I
am reminded to ALWAYS examine my oil filter, and to known and trust my
engine shop. I will update the LML if I find anything more of interest.
