The normaly closed side of the microswitch is wired in series with the UP end of the gear selector, thus preventing retraction while the plane is loaded, giving a fraction of an inch movement of the wheel fork. I have not tried it yet but I guess you could start your take-off run with gears up selected. The pump will only start when you unload the gear i.e. the plane is flyable.
