One usually drops the gear on the downwind leg whicn is usually higher than your approach speed. I installed a small green light at the 10:00 O'Clock position from my gear switch and gear lights. It is "ON" when it is safe and "OFF" when you can operate the gear. Thus masterswitch on, green light "ON". Take off, rotate, climb out, light "OFF". Works great. You could do slow speed flights in the sky and see what speed the light comes on. no guess work. The switch is the one from Lance Air and I wired the remaining wire to the light for the other side of the switch. Works fine. Yes it is expensive and cumbersome. Weighs about two ounces. How expensive and heavy is a repair job for a greased slide into the runway?
