Posted for Dave <AVIDWIZ@aol.com>:
This is my first posting to this list and I have a Lancair IV-P (N424E)
with 60 hrs since first flight on the plane.
Everything has gone well thus far but recently I have expereinced a problem
getting the right main gear to retract. I am attaching a JPEG with shows
the plane with the right gear about half extended.
The first thought was that the gear handle might not be extending all the
way and so we put the plane on jacks and cycled the gear and found no
problem. Just to be sure we filed out a larger notch in the face plate
for the gear handle so that there could not be any physical obstruction to
it traveling "full up" but the problem still exists.
When the gear are retracted the pump light and the three green lights go
off but the red in transit light stays on and the right main stays halfway
down. [There is an attached JPG which I'll be uploading to the site later
in the week... away on business once again. Sorry.... <Marv>]
Also there does not seem to be any obvious damage to the gear door which I
am told would suggest a hang up of the brake caliper on the door.
After seeing the pictures a couple of builder experts think that the
problem may be in the gear door rails which are too flexible and may be
flexing under the air load and jamming the gear.
Has anyone out there had a problem like this and if so what did you do to
solve the problem. I guess I am looking for ideas to try in the event the
railing idea does not work.
Thanks for any advice you may have.
