I am near close-out of the rudder on my 320 and have a question for
the collective wisdom of LNC2 flyers out there.
"What should I do about rudder trim?"
Dan -
I've been flying my 320 for over three years and possibly because of
building it 'straight and symmetrical' (with a little luck thrown in),
there's no need for rudder trim, except, of course, during acceleration and
climb (a slight left rudder is required during high speed cruise; however,
after inputting just the slight amount required to 'center the ball', you'll
find that the pedal can be released and the ball remains centered).
If you feel the need for a system to input the slight right rudder
needed during climb, you can install a simple mechanical bias control in the
cockpit. Mine consists of a button release cable mounted to a bracket on the
side of the nose gear tunnel, just below the free-fall valve. The cable
routes forward to a simple clamp on the firewall and then loops aft to
connect to the right rudder pedal through a spring, so that you can override
the slight amount of right rudder, if necessary.
