I have an older fuselage in which the firewall is not pre-cored in areas
where the vacuum reg, gacolator, brake resevoir, electric connectors etc,
etc are mounted. My options are to core out the same areas as the newer
firewalls and as outlined on the blueprint or make chincy hardpoints per
the book by coreing the edges of the mounting hole and stuffing a little
flox in, redrill and use area washers. Is this adequate? It seems easier
than coring large areas and doing a layup. If any of you did the layup to
simulate the new firewalls, how many bids did you use? This is what Don
Goetz recommended to me, but then why didn't it get discussed way earlier in
the book wher we reinforced the engine mount points and added firewall
reinforcement?
Bob Foxwell
Slightly confused as usual.
