I received the same advice from Jefco. Forget about it!. When I called
Michael Engineering, one of the guys (I guess Michael...) told me to put the
check valve in battery acid for 30 minutes. I told him "OK I'll do the work
for you and let you know". This presumably would strip the check valve from
the coating that is causing the pain in the ... discoloration. I haven't
done it yet, I'm still looking for and old battery. Both of mine are sealed.
Another interesting thing happens. After all my lay-ups I use a heat lamp
(140 deg for two hours) to accelerate cross link and provide some post cure
as well. The discoloration disappears completely and the fiberglass return
to its original nice color.
