Peter,

There are a number of in-flight = charging solutions=20 in the form of external backup batteries you can plug the USB = charging cord=20 into if your iPad gets low.  In fact, to get FAA approval to use = iPads in=20 airliners, it was a requirement that we carry one.  Just do a = search in=20 eBay and you'll find plenty to choose from.  These can also be used = for=20 cell phones, cameras or anything else that uses a USB plug to = charge, so=20 they come in pretty handy.

Subject: [LML] IPAD SOLUTION

HI THERE

i have become dependent on the ipad. = cheaper and=20 better than Jepp charts
  i have to admit that i do subscribe = to the=20 NE and SE Jepp charts as that is much of my flying

but
i = have had=20 concern on long flights
     fly for four = hours, stop=20 and have lunch and check email and the weather and=20 suddenly
        the ipad is = getting low=20 when i get back in the Lancair.

A:  REDUNDANCY
  =  =20   i bought a second ipad and keep it turned off and in reserve; = that way=20 i've got an extra eight hours of navigation

SHOOTING=20 APPROACHES
     GPS=20 = APPROACHES
          = ;=20 embarrassingly easy; there you are looking at  the chart with a = little=20 airplane showing your path
    =20 ILS
          i = actually do=20 not pay a lot of attention to the moving airplane as i am hard on the = gauges=20
          but, I've = got all=20 the charts right there

   =20 AND
       if you are worried about = losing=20 your page; make a copy and it will be there with your photos for=20 ever
           = (press=20 the two buttons at the same time and you will capture what is on the = screen=20 and it will be saved=20 = to
           &= nbsp;=20 the photo file on the ipad)

TWO IPADS IS CHEAP=20 INSURANCE

CHARGING IN FLIGHT
     i have = not=20 been pleased with the charge rate using the cigarette lighter plug, = when using=20 the ipad with ForeFlight. i does seem to more or less keep up with the = usage=20 but not always

OVERHEATING
    happened to me = and i=20 did not like it. the solution was simple, do not leave the ipad on the = glare=20 shield...then no more=20 problem
