Richard,
Many have solved this issue. My experience in several original designs I built found success by realizing that areas in and out are important. But the most important and primary prerequisite fact is that pressure rules. You have to know or find the area on your cowling that has lower pressure than your inlet.
Make a simple manometer with plastic tubing and a little liquid. One end in the inlet area, and the other in prospective outlet areas. Others will offer the number of inches of fluiid shifting appropriate to your engine.
Hope this helps.

I am having unbelievable trouble cooling my engine.
I have installed two oil coolers, got the Zavatson plenum on, yet l can't complete a circuit without the oil temp hitting red! I am cutting out the intakes to make them larger now and opening up the outlet too.
l have a Mccauley prop on the aircraft, would this make a difference compared to the Hartzell?
Thanks
