Ed … just catching up on messages …
I have flown with RV’s up to Thunder Mustangs …. The important thing is that everyone in the gaggle experienced with formation flying. Yes, you got to start somewhere – that is where an instructor is nice. If not - know who you are flying with … if someone is weak …. You know who to watch ..
As for as wake turbulence … the only problem I have had is with the Mustang in extended trail …. But with altitude … you can recover …. Haha … as far as approach … use spacing (extend if necessary) and fly minimum of 120kts until landing is assured. I was landing at Hobby a couple of months ago and was land 12L as company (SWA 737-700) was landing 12R. I got into their wake and was rolled almost upside down before I recovered … I was at 120 kts and the recovery was sluggish to say the least. I have landed 12L under the same conditions on many occasions and this was an eye opener …. I have always flown with wake turbulence in mind (high and offset) but this got my attention …
I tried to see if there is any interest in a Legacy Formation Clinic on this forum with only one or two responses … Would still like to see one if there is any interest???
Lastly, off the subject - I am having the 3rd Annual Hill Country Air Race on the 26th of April at Llano (KAQO) if you or if anyone else Is interested … come out and play …. Link will be up in a day or two!!!!!!!!
