I’ve had a few of the gang point out, with our shoulder harness inertia reel mounted behind our seat backs, that we have to be careful about the angle of the shoulder straps as covered in FAA Advisory Circular 21-34  That's what's so great about the LML community – everyone helping out with important things to think about in our airplanes.

In our airplane, we considered this Advisory Circular and run the shoulder straps through adjustable seat backs we made that gets the right position for the straps – see photo below.  As an aside, the seat backs also adjust in recline through an airline style push button.

Thanks everyone who pointed this out in case we’d missed it.

Bob,

We had our custom design safety harnesses built by Schroth/BAE Systems in Pompano Beach, Florida.  The quality is outstanding.

Below is the final design/build drawing for our Legacy, where the shoulder straps retract into an inertia reel mounted to our seat backs.

Subject: [LML] LNC2 seat belts

I am replacing and upgrading the seatbelts in my 235. I am considering Camlock fasteners so that it is easier for passengers to fasten their belts without having to put everything together in the correct order. Some of the systems I am looking at have 3" straps rather than the more common 2" straps. Does anyone have 3" belts in their LNC2? I am concerned that the 3" lapbelt and shoulder harness will be less comfortable than the 2" belts. What is your experience?

I've mostly been looking at Summit Racing. Typical race car systems have much shorter shoulder straps than are needed for the LNC2. Does anyone have other suggestions?
