Tim,

Beautiful airplane and wonderful sound!!  That definitely gets me motivated.

Since you mentioned the reinforcement for the hinge, I decided to check mine.  Not only do I not see any reinforcement for the hinge on either the top or bottom skins, I don’t see any mention of this in the build manual.  It does, however, mention installing the servo mount plate on the top skin with the access panel in the bottom.  The control horn is mounted under the hinge on the top skin.  I’m going to go that way and see what happens.  Mine does have the core carved out properly.

On a side note, my left elevator fits pretty well, but my right elevator has the outboard spar a bit closer to the curved part (more forward).  This means that the left looks great with a wonderful constant gap, but the gap on the right gets too large as it moves. (Radius is smaller)  It looks like some micro to smooth this out will fix it nicely (increase the radius to what it should be)
