HI Peter again,
Tow Bar:  I just converted my factory tow bar to be used by my new electric tug. (Not really a wussy, just a new spine change from our beloved friends in Western Medicine)   BTW the factory SS tow bar weighs in at 17#, is full of ferrous and affects my Dynon built-in compass.
Thus, I'm in process of building an Aluminum tow bar mostly identical to factory as follows:

        2' of 3/4"x.065" 6061T6 (Spruce 03-36350-2)    inner tube
        2' of 7/8"x.068" 6016T6  (Spruce 03-36400-2)   outer tube
2' of 3/16" SS Rod (Spruce 03-26600)    304CD is non ferrous  (locking pin)
6 inches of 3/4 or 7/8 tube for handle,  take your pick.

This allows .009 sliding clearance between the tubes.
The final connection to ac is mostly a duplicate from scrap al.
Final weight on old scale is just over ONE POUND.

I'll let you know if unwanted bending happens,  I'm betting NO!
