He and a passenger made a gas stop in Evanston, WY (7,143' elevation) on the way to OSH. It must have been a warm day, loaded airplane and maybe Don was not expecting it, considering takeoff performance is usually a non-problem. Anyway, he said they used most of the runway and climb was very slow for too long. My takeaway was, hot and high airports can provide more thrills than you bargain for, so check DA, runway length, departure terrain and gross weight. Lean to sea level takeoff EGT before departure and have a no-go point picked out.
