Any blood shed over this thread will be on the head of the person who asked the

Do vacuum pumps last 1000 hours? I believe Mooney recommends replacement at 500
or 600 hours for their new aircrafts.
Just for reference, I do not have the option of an all electric system in my
factory built Mooney. For years, all my ICCs (or whatever they are called now)
have been almost exclusively partial panel. It gives me a good workout but I
feel comfortable that I can handle the plane and fly a half decent ILS with only
the TC and pitot/static instruments. I am not sure how well I will do in actual
conditions without the security blanket of an instructor sitting in the right
seat who will intervene and keep me from bending metal if I mess up. I would
rather let that be one of life's unanswered questions.
Whether you go with electric or electric+vacuum system, make sure you have
backups, know how you can test that the backups are working and practice running
the system on the backups only.

Since a number of Lancair IV's (and others) are flying IFR with all electric
systems and tens of thousands of certified planes are flying with a single vacuum
pump without a backup vacuum, it is clear that both options are approveable with
the FAA. If you are wondering which does the FAA think is better, is that really
relevant?
