Perhaps not, but they can sure as hell
cancel your registration and make your plane illegal to fly.

The FAA is not chipping N numbers off airplanes.
The FAA Registry says that tail number is
assigned, but expired. Apparently it expired in 2011. I thought
that they took the number from you if you didn’t renew it??
The lady in the house was very lucky since
the plane hit the garage and didn’t catch fire. Sad day for the pilot’s
family.
