Pete,
As per your request on engine data plate romoval, I think Charlie Kohler says
it best in his e-mail of 9/19/00 "no person may remove --(engine data plates)
-- without the approval of the administrator " as per FAR 45.13.
I ran down the info on the FAA forum I attended at Oshkosh on "Certification
of Amateur Built Aircraft". It was given by Richard Mileham of the FAA. I
talked with him today and he mentioned FAR 45.13 above. He also mentioned AC
20-27D "Certification and Operation of Amateur -Built Aircraft", paragraph 6,
part b.("--- it is strongly recommended that FAA-approved components and
established aircraft quality materials be used --") for a justification on
not removing the engine maneplate.
He seems to be very helpful and welcomes any calls for further information.
His number is 847-294-7623.
