I really like Dan's electrical warning idea, it is a simple safety addition.  I have the extra positive lock because the retractable steps may open the latch in turbulence according to HPAT.  I have the Delran pieces, great for opening the canopy.

I am not sure a secondary latch is needed if you modify the latch stricker plate.  The latch fingers will have greater overlap.  I added an extra plate with the hole enlarge to accept the delran piece - see attached.   I used countersunk screws for clearance.   As a way to deal with pilot error, I added a canopy latch switch which illuminates when the latch is open and if open and airspeed is above 30 kts, I get an aural warning.

Just curious how many people have installed some sort of secondary locking feature onto the interior canopy handle to reduce the chance of opening in flight.  If so, would you be willing to share (pictures, description, etc)?  If not, do you feel the over-center feature provides sufficient protection?

Thanks for any feedback.
