I have installed it as part of my boost pump assembly, on the suction side of the pump. This will protect the pump as well as give the gascolator less work to do. The filter is a fine metallic screen and can be easily removed. You would have to ask Airflow for the size of the filter mesh but it is designed to work with their fuel injection system. I have no header tank and my boost pump is under the LH seat. My gascolator is an Andair and has a very fine filter in it that they say will also turn back water! I hope that there is enough protection for the fuel injection system.
