I own a 1990 Sea ray 29' boat. It has twin 4.3 IO motors both with the same pumps that are in our airplanes( except the way they are set up). On these pumps are smaller looking compact relays, lately I have decided that if I needed to replace mine I would look into theses as they are still working after 23 years in a very bad environment and salt water. It might be worth looking into. They are Merc Cruisers. Don't know about continuous duty but in a bigger boat you are always adjusting the out drives up and down depending on the conditions and power. They must be designed for wet environment. I bet they are not cheap Chinese units.

Subject: [LML] Re: Hydraulic gear pump failure
About 3 mos ago, the high side relay failed while 4ZQ was up on jacks. I figured
that old age (original kit) plus X number of cycles during construction took
that relay to the end of its useful life. So trying to kill two birds with one
stone, I replaced both hi/lo relays with new (chinese) from the local auto parts
store.
The cause of yesterday's gear failure turned out to be the NEW low side relay,
and it had just 14 cycles....
So, on the assumption that relay quality differs, who makes a HIGH quality relay
with the same footprint as those that
came with the kit? Any reason why they should not be continuous duty type?
