I would suggest that perhaps an SL30 or some other nav/com is all he'll need. Also, the GTX330 they quoted at $4000 (even though you can get it yourself at Aircraft Spruce for $3485)... but you can get the GTX23 transponder for half the price -- its remote mounted and will save some panel space. They also quoted $2000 for a blank panel (I had mine done for about $300, laser cut, painted and engraved/decaled)... plus $2000 to swap out the old panel and place in this new one (this is outside of all the labour to do the other work). Finally, they wanted $160 for the pilots guide --- a free download from the Garmin web site. Needless to say, I'm thinking they want to take advantage of him so I thought I would check in with you folks to see if you can offer any recommendations for a good and reasonable shop in Florida. Hi All,

A friend of mine is looking at perhaps upgrading his panel and = installing a G3X system.  He also needs to get a new nav/com (or perhaps gps) as his current one is on its last legs (apollo 60).  Also, his transponder = needs to be replaced.

They're telling him (or recommending)

  • GTN750 gps
  • GTX330 = transponder

Now, my friend doesn't fly IFR nor will he ever... so I told him that he only = really needs a NAV/COM since the G3X unit has built in GPS and you can build = your flight plans in there (rather than in the GTN750 and have it crossfill = to the G3X).   I would suggest that perhaps an SL30 or some other = nav/com is all he'll need.

Also, the GTX330 they quoted at $4000 (even though you can get it yourself at = Aircraft Spruce for $3485)... but you can get the GTX23 transponder for half the = price -- its remote mounted and will save some panel = space.

They also quoted $2000 for a blank panel (I had mine done for about $300, laser = cut, painted and engraved/decaled)... plus $2000 to swap out the old panel = and place in this new one (this is outside of all the labour to do the other = work).

Finally, they wanted $160 for the pilots guide --- a free download from the = Garmin web site.
