Hi Bob,

I got your information from the Lancair Mailing List and saw that you are
very active on it.  I'm thinking that you know a lot about Lancairs and
perhaps point me in the right direction.  My Dad built a Lancair IV-PT and
finished it in 2006.  He passed away last November and I'm trying to
understand how much it is worth.  My brother is interested in taking it from
the estate.  My Dad left his estate 50/50 to myself and my brother, so we are
trying to figure out what the value of the plane should be if he were to take
it from the estate.  Any idea on the value based on the specs below?  Is there
a certified appraiser that you know that understands the nuances of Lancairs
in particular and would give an accurate value?

Here are the specs of the plane and I'm attaching a picture of the outside (I
don't have a full picture of the avionics panel):

Engine: Walter 601D

Avionics:
Garmin GMA 340 Audio panel
Garmin GNS430W WAAS GPS/NAV/Com with Glide slope indicator
Garmin SL 30 NAV/Com
Garmin GTX330 Mode S transponder with TIS
Tru-Trak Sorcerer Autopilot
Single screen Chelton SV Efis System
Garmin GMX 200 MFD with traffic.

It is pressurized

There is A/C

No de-ice on the wings.

Does anyone know if there are limitations to landing the ES on grass strips?  Is it advisable to remove the wheel pants and/or put larger tires on the main and nose gear?

The ES handles grass just fine with the wheel pants on.  The only big problem is if the runway is a little rough, the old strut will not be able to handle the shimmy damping. It's imperative to have the new style strut.  I test flew an ES in Bolivia that had the latest mods and factory service on an old style (but brand new) strut.  It worked ok for about 4 landings and after that there was completely no shimmy dampening.  Installed the new style strut and it's been good every since.  Joaquin will probably tell more about it since he's here on the list too

George, I try to stay off grass. I have in the past but it shaacks the $%#& out of the panel and nose gear, which is connected to the motor mount. In a pinch yes. Not on a regular basis.
