Dear Team,
After installing the lower left and right aileron belcranks in the fuselage
of my IV-P, I discovered that when the long aileron push tubes were attached
and the aluminum pressure bellows tubes then centered around the push tubes,
the flanges on the aileron bellows tubes extend below the normal line of the
lower wing fairing. Further, the long aileron push tube hits the lower part
of two innermost rib cutouts, requiring relieving the cutout holes to very
close to the lower wing skin (fast build wings; as built and aligned at
Lancair).

I talked to Orin about this at Oshkosh, and the proposed solution is to NOT
install the rear flight control mount prepregs in the fuselage using the
dimensions in the manual, but to locate the point where the aileron push
tubes should enter the fuselage, based on centering them in the internal wing
cutouts, then using this as a reference for installing/spacing the prepregs
and belcranks/rear aileron torque tube bearings.

Also, if you have the newer aileron torque tubes with the forward crossover
below the torque tube (rather than above as shown in the manual), be sure you
mount the forward bearings high enough to allow the crossover tube to clear
the nose gear tunnel. (The second installation is never as neat as the first!)

Can't figure out a simpler way to say these things; give me a call if you
have questions.

Bob Pastusek
