HEADLINE: Breckinridge plane crash victim identified as Louisville man
The pilot who was killed when his small plane crashed Saturday near Seree, in Breckinridge County, has been identified as David E. Klein, 54, of Louisville.
The plane apparently took off from the Rough River Airport , headed to Louisville, when it crashed about 1:45 p.m. Klein was identified by Breckinridge County Coroner Tim Bandy.
Citing unconfirmed reports, WXBC-FM 104.3 radio reported that the single-engine plane was traveling with another aircraft that landed safely at the Hardinsburg airport. The pilot of the plane that safely landed said his last radio contact with Klein indicated electrical problems.
The pilot's last radio transmission said he was two miles south of Hardinsburg and "I'm going down hard." Klein was the only person on board.
The plane crashed in a field. Wreckage was strewn over the field, but there was no indication of fire. There were no witnesses.
On Sunday, the Breckinridge County Sheriff's Department, the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration were investigating the cause of the crash, according to June Blair, dispatcher for Breckinridge County 911.
