The only wing walk I have ever used on my Lancairs (have owned 6 through the years) is a mat that I throw over the wing before entering/exiting the airplane. Wing walk is un-attractive at best and probably doesn't increase speed:-)
I bought a Cirrus 2 years ago and the first thing I wanted to know was how I could get the wing walk removed.
To each his own but at least consider getting a length of the same material that is used to line the drawers in a tool box. It will not slip and unless you forget to bing it in with you when you crank the airplane, will last indefinitely.
