I got on my boat in Hayes, Va, when a thunderstorm hit. It didn't seem that bad. I was down below having a drink. A heard loud thunder and saw an immediate flash. It appeared to be very close. I hadn't even turned on the power in the boat yet.
When I did turn it on, I found out that all of the electronics on the boat were fried. The bow thruster was fried. The wind gauge on top of the 70' mast was blown away.
I didn't even know that I was hit until I started testing.
Lightning can take out any piece of electronic gear that it wants to anywhere in any vessel that it hits.
This is experience talking.
