Hello guys
Well I just got 100 hours in my new Lancair 4p and I have to say this is a great plane. I have done VFR and IFR flights, in IMC, in heavy rain and IMC in the night as well and the plane was just doing great.
However today I came into an IFR/IMC situation that really got my attention. (you can check my n number at http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N45HL , n45HL). Off course I checked the weather before and filed IFR.
I also tried to check turbulence but somehow this morning those charts were off line......perhaps they knew that it was going to get rough :(
I have been in turbulence many times but never like this. If you look at the chart in flightaware.com you see that at 11000 (just coming off Daytona) I was in trouble, as a matter of fact I had a real upset and the bumps were so hard that I lost my headset and needed a few minutes to get myself settled again, I requested a lower altitude and at 9000 I was ok.......at least for a while then the roller coaster started again.
I had to push myself with my right arm against the ceiling from not hitting my head over and over again. And off course I pulled my MAP until 25 just to have a bigger margin (I care about the plane and would not like to break it lol)
Also very noticeable was that the altimeter setting was going from 2996 towards 3026, the winds aloft were high, and it actually just looked like a normal IFR/IMC flight......so you really can get lured into this situation. I think I will do some more weather studies pfffff....
So......what a capable plane this is....but I have to admit, 1 hour more would be too much for me, just of getting exhausted of holding myself together lol

ps Tomorrow I fly back home......but I check the pireps lol (I left a few)
