Alternate solution to yours: There is usually an access panel under the rear seat that allows access to the gear leg grease fittings at annual time. If you remove the little lid that covers that, you can drop the keys into the wheel well from which they can be snatched by a person outside the plane to unlock you…
I subsequently made an extra key which is zip tied to something in the wheel well for future use (hopefully never…).
