John and Bill,

 

Countersinking #6 screws into 4-6 BID of graphite doesn't leave much material.  That's what happened to my first aluminum cover plates.  I dimpled the second set and that's the way to go.  Of course you could go 10-12 BID and have plenty of material for the countersinking.
