Hi Lynn,
It is good to read that there are many Legacy's flying at weights well above the 2200lb MTOW as shown in the aircraft operating handbook.
I believe this aircraft is more than capable of handling these higher weights and will fly mine (once finished) at around 2550lbs (1160kg).
I have the TCM IO-550N so my aircraft is not a super Legacy but will still have performance to spare at those weights.
I have written to Lancair engineering, technical and support staff three times now regarding the ridiculously low MZFW (1900lbs) and MTOW (2200lbs) as shown in the Pilot Operating Handbook to ask how they determined this MZFW and if there was a handbook amendment available to up the weights.
Even the company demonstrator N199L which I flew at Oshkosh before purchasing a partly completed project was operating at 2400lb MTOW or that is what I was told.
I think it was Kim who replied that she couldn't help with my questions but engineering would. I get the feeling there is no engineering or technical staff remaining at the factory and have still not had a response from them.

Ross, My gross weight is 2700 lbs. My airplane
is powered by a TSIO-550 engine; has plenty of power and T/O and climb at that
weight is not a problem. I had Andy Chiavetta ask Greg Cole (one of
the folks involved in the design of the Legacy) if the Legacy could handle a
2700 lb gross weight and was told it would be OK. I have the ability to carry
95 gallons of fuel so needed the higher gross weight. However, when flying at the higher weights
I fly it the same way I flew airliners. Lynn Farnsworth Super Legacy #235 TSIO-550 Powered Race #44 Mmo .6 Mach Hi
I fly a Legacy (#309) and wondered what different AUW’s guys have taken
their Legacy’s to? I have registered mine at 2400lbs but recall reading
that some were greater than that in the USA.
