I used a variation of Bob Pastusek
and Joe Trepicone designs. I didn't like the elephant butt because of the
weight, wasted space, and no standing access to the rear when the plane is done
(through the gear door openings). I lowered the baggage area quite a bit,
and made cutouts for the wheels. Maintaining an inch around the wheels at
the prepreg, I used a couple layers of carpet padding to get an inch of space
all around the protruding area of the wheels, clear taped the padding, and laid
an 8 bid over the padding. All baggage area "floors" are removable for
access later. The extended baggage area can only be used for very light
stuff, but my wife loves to haul lots of pillows when we travel.
I had no plans for the modified gear
well, just used common sense on clearances (although I DID have the elephant
butt for reference). You'll notice a bump
for the hydraulic pump, and there will be another one shortly for the top corner
of the fan motor on the A/C condenser (just finishing that now).
