Yes, I built mine up from scratch. I cut the panel from 3/4" board, then a layer of polythene, followed by 5 layers of fiberglass. I curved the glass around the edge to add strength. Then it was a question of removing it from the board, filling , sanding and painting. I made the panel flat, without the bump for the radio stack. If you are using a header tank, check for radio clearance from the tank before you set the panel's fore and aft position.
Quite a lot of work, but the result is strong. Just be careful that there will enough clearance from the canopy, allowing for the dust cover. You can see the result here.
