Yes, but the core issue at hand is the
weight per Watthour (VoltAmphr). That’s not a re-packing / bulk
cost issue.
Brent summarized the results correctly (as
he always does). The referenced batteries are not really 18Amphr.
They are closer to 5 or 6 as the
comparison with 2lbs of 12V Dewalt Li-Ion batteries would predict.
Even if you needed 3 or 4 of the Li-ion
batteries, it’s still a good weight savings over traditional lead/acid –
just not nearly the 1/10th savings implied.

Rick,
The early
"packagers", as opposed to manufacturers, are charging huge
markups. It's not too hard to buy cells wholesale and build your own
packs. The electric vehicle forums have lots of details.
