This is the response from Trutrak regarding the 12v issue for autotrim units driving the Ray Allen trim servo and why they would like to have it returned.
No, we can't modify the autotrim to ONLY output 12V, it will still output whatever is put into it. However, the older autotrim is not suitable for sustained 24V input. When a current load is put on it at 24V, it's lifespan is shortened. The new model (which is wired the same way) is able to handle 5A @ 24V. We'll take a look at yours and most likely exchange it for a new version. In the meantime, you'll want to set up a convertor in your aircraft to bring the input voltage down to 12V. RMA to follow soon. Thanks!
So Doug, I would send him the s/n on your unit to see if it is "at risk". This means it won't address my trim speed issue until I reduce the voltage to 12v or establish a PWM interface (bi-directional dc motor pwm schematic with airspeed switch input, anyone?) but it will prevent some form of failure they must be concerned about.
