My original posting about shipping charges was not intended to start a slew
of complaints. After all, UPS charges are what they are -- I don't think
Lancair gets a special higher rate or anything, and I presume there's no
profit taking by Lancair on the shipping (though they have a right to collect
fees for boxing stuff up, and I expect they do -- no problem there). In
fact, UPS is usually pretty good. Vern advises me when other options will be
cheaper, and I once got something FedEx because they were cheaper than UPS
for the 3-day service I needed at that time. Thanks, Vern, for saving me a
couple of bucks then.
But there's still a problem with Hazmat.
I received one reply from a gentleman in the shipping business who's father
owns a Lancair IV-P and thus reads this list. I forwarded his solicitation
on to Lancair for their review. I don't know what the outcome will be.
So once again, if anyone has suggestions for lowering hazmat shipping costs,
please sing out.
For example, I have bought Hysol directly from EV Roberts in Culver City, CA,
down there in the Los Angeles nightmare. It costs more than when I buy it
from Lancair (they get a quantity discount, it seems) but I just drove there
and picked it up, so there was no shipping cost at all (sales tax, though).
Jeffco is located in San Diego (Kearny Mesa, actually) but I haven't tried to
buy direct from them. Anyone else know of local sources for these products?
