As another LML person in this discussion indicated, Wikipedia has information about what AGPS is:
It starts out by saying "
Assisted GPS, generally abbreviated as A-GPS, is a system which can, under certain conditions, improve the startup performance, or TTFF (Time To First Fix) of a GPSsatellite-based positioning system. It is used extensively with GPS-capable cellular phones as its development was accelerated by the U.S. FCC's 911 mandate making the location of a cell phone available to emergency call dispatchers."
So you are confusing AGPS with what early 1st Gen iPhones, iPhone 3g, and iPad with WiFi used to get location approximation.
In the Spec Sheet you refer to it has "Assisted GPS (Wi-Fi + 3G model)", accuratly indicating that it is in the WiFi + GPS model only.
I think if you re-read my previous post more carefully, you will see I am not confusing IP geolocation with GPS.

I call that crippled. See the spec sheet under
"Location" about 2/3 down the page.
. . . and don't confuse IPgeolocation with real GPS . . . assisted or
otherwise.

Wolfgang,
Can you be more specific about what you are saying "Apple
cripples"?
