The problem may be too much slop in
the hinges. We discussed this on the list several years ago. You need to
replace the hinge pins with stainless steel 3/16-in. welding rod. Some have
used a reamer attached to a pin to first ream the hinge. I have found that
step to be unnecessary. I have been able to install the 3/16 rod into new
hinge without reaming. It is a tight fit, but once installed, there is no
play in the hinge.
The pins must also be replaced on the inner gear
doors to prevent too much vibration there, and the entire hinge must be
replaced once in a while. Last year, I had to replace these hinges and pins
after about 900 hours on the hobbs. The doors were beginning to vibrate too
much in the prop wash.
