The problem may be too much slop in the hinges. We discussed this on the
list several years ago. You need to replace the hinge pins with stainless
steel 3/16-in. welding rod. Some have used a reamer attached to a pin to
first ream the hinge. I have found that step to be unnecessary. I have been
able to install the 3/16 rod into new hinge without reaming. It is a tight
fit, but once installed, there is no play in the hinge.

The pins must also be replaced on the inner gear doors to prevent too much
vibration there, and the entire hinge must be replaced once in a while. Last
year, I had to replace these hinges and pins after about 900 hours on the
hobbs. The doors were beginning to vibrate too much in the prop wash.
