hi all-
several weeks ago a very experienced senior pilot contacted me about trading his p-210 and cash for my propjet. we agreed on terms, he asked me who to make the cashiers check out to and asked me if i would deliver my propjet to fla as he(and his partner who he passively mentioned) needed training before flying it. this made me feel more comfortable as he understood the need for training. i pointed him toward hp-at and lobo. he even arranged for an instructor to fly the p-210 home with me as i have no time in a 210. we talked about insurance and i explained to him the initial and recurrent training requirements. the day before i was to fly to fla and make the deal he contacted me explaining that he could not find insurance on a lancair propjet. i gave him my agents name/number as well as articles from the lobo site about insurance. he then emailed me and told me that he could not get insurance and without insurance he could not make the deal. i contacted my agent who told me that his "partner" who apparently was going to be the primary pilot only had 200 hours total time! although in general i am not a fan of the insurance market, this is one time when i am very happy that they would not offer him insurance. i then explained to the potential buyer who i had been corresponding with that a lancair propjet is not a plane for a 200 hour pilot. we parted on good terms and the last i heard the 200 hour pilot was flying the heck out of the p-210 building time.
be careful who wants to buy your lancair!
