Luke,
I have nav and com mounted in my horizontal and vertical fin. Another com mounted in the upper inside of the tail section.
My ELT and transponder mounted behind the baggage bulkhead on the fuselage sides.
I used Advanced Aircraft Electronics for all the above. No ground plane needed.They worked well for the last ten years and are easy to install.

I also wanted to add, I have read the archives and see the same problems.  I am interested if other have found good solutions and or other issues.  I also have a ground plane with the elt antenna on the aft left baggage bulkhead close to the bottom of the fuselage.  I was wondering about putting it there with the rod and ball antenna almost touching the bottom of the fuselage, but still concernded about the elevator bell crank blanketing it out on the right side.
